Probiotics, pH and dental health

We now know that probiotics are important to your digestive health and overall health.  Are they also important to your dental health? This is being researched presently as we gain more knowledge into probiotics role in our health.  Currently we know that good and bad bacteria live in our bodies.  When we have a healthy balance with the good bacteria outnumbering the bad bacteria, we stay healthy.  In our mouths, the pH level caused by the foods we eat, how often we eat and acidic drinks, dictates that balance of good and bad bacteria.  The good bacteria require a more neutral pH (7) to survive and thrive.  The bad bacteria thrive at more acidic pH levels (4.7).  Those bacteria are attributed to dental decay.  If you want to make an environment in your mouth that is hospitable to the good bacteria needed to maintain health, you must create a more neutral environment. Stay tuned for tips and recommendations to create and maintain a neutral oral environment.
